Introduction  
Congratulations on purchasing the Digital SuperPro 640 camera. With the  
Digital SuperPro 640 camera you can take your photos and see the results  
within minutes. There is no need for film and no need to get your photos  
developed and printed at service bureaus.  
The Digital SuperPro 640 is easy to use – just point the camera and click the  
shutter, like a conventional camera. Then import your photos to your computer  
and use the IXLA software to edit, print and more.  
Here are a few examples of what you can do with your Digital SuperPro 640  
camera:  
Take photos and view them on your PC.  
Take photos and print them out on your home printer.  
Take photos and e-mail them to family and friends.  
Take photos and organize them in electronic photo albums or slide  
shows.  
Take photos and create a Web site with them.

Here is a typical scenario of what you might do with your Digital SuperPro 640  
camera:  
1 Load your batteries.  
2 Turn on your camera.

Loading batteries  
Digital SuperPro 640 uses 4 standard AAA batteries.  
To load the batteries

Locate the battery cover on the bottom of the camera.  
Press the cover down and push it sideways, in the direction of the arrow.  
Flip the cover open.  
Insert the batteries with the positive terminals toward the + signs, and the  
negative terminals toward the – signs.

Flip the cover closed.  
Note Remove the batteries if you will not be using the Digital SuperPro  
640 for an extended period of time. This prevents corrosion or  
battery leaks.  
Turning the camera on and off  
Turn the camera on and off using the Power button on the top of the camera.

Click the Power button.  
Hold it down for a moment.  
Check that the camera is on by  
looking for the green Power display light on the back of the camera.  
To turn off the camera  
The Power button is used for turning the camera both on and off. When the  
camera is on, pressing the Power button will turn it off.  
Note After the camera is switched off, the flash display light may stay lit for  
up to a minute. It will turn itself off as the flash gradually discharges.

LCD character display  
The Digital SuperPro 640 comes equipped with a Liquid Crystal  
Display (LCD) that displays important information. The LCD  
display window is located on the back of the camera on the left  
side. It displays information about:  
The number of photos that you have taken with the camera. After you  
have taken the first photo, 01 appears in the LCD display window. As  
you take more photos the number changes to 02, 03, and so on.  
When the memory is full, FL is displayed.

Taking photos with the Digital SuperPro 640 is easy and fun.  
To take a photo

Make sure that the camera is turned on.  
Position the subject in the View finder.  
To ensure accurate focus, make sure that the subject is at least three feet  
(one meter) away.

Set the Flash mode to on, off or automatic. For more information, see  
page 10.  
Gently press the Shutter button and keep the camera still for a couple of  
seconds.  
When the image has been captured, the camera beeps and the number  
displayed in the LCD is updated.  
Camera memory  
The camera has room for between 24 and 30 photos. The Digital SuperPro  
640 delete function erases all the photos in the camera’s memory. You do not  
have the option to delete single photos. When the Digital SuperPro 640’s  
memory is full, you will need to erase the existing photos in order to capture  
new ones.  
Indications that the memory is full  
When the memory is full:  
You hear repeated short high tones when you press the shutter.  
FL appears in the LCD.

Press the Flash and Self Timer button simultaneously and hold for 3  
seconds.  
After 3 seconds the LCD display shows two dashes ( - - ).  
The dashes indicate that the camera’s memory has been cleared.  
Release the Flash and Self Timer button.  
The LCD displays 00 indicating that the photo counter has been reset.  
Focus  
The minimum focal length of the camera is three feet (one meter). Make sure  
your subject is at least three feet away before taking your photo.  
Flash  
The Digital SuperPro 640 has three flash modes:  
Flash On–the flash operates every time you take a photo.  
Flash Off–the flash does not function.  
Flash Auto–the camera automatically senses whether the flash is  
needed.  
Click the Flash button to toggle between these three modes.  
The current Flash mode is displayed in the LCD window.

Recharging the flash  
Flash display light  
The flash may need time to recharge between  
photos. When the flash is ready, the Flash  
display light on the back of the camera glows  
orange. If the Flash display is not lit, wait a  
few moments for the flash to recharge.  
Self Timer  
The Digital SuperPro 640 is equipped with a 10 second Self Timer. It creates  
a ten second delay between the time you press the Self Timer button and the  
time the photo is taken. This allows you to take a photo with yourself included.

Hold down the Self Timer button.  
The Self Timer indicator will begin to flash and beep.  
The beeps become faster over a period of ten seconds.  
When the sound stops, the shutter captures the image.  
Power Saver  
The Digital SuperPro 640 has an automatic power cut-off. If the camera has  
not been used for twenty seconds, the power will automatically switch off. To  
turn the power back on, press the Power button.

There is no film in your Digital SuperPro 640 camera. You access the photos  
by connecting the camera to your PC and transferring the photos to the PC.  
This is also known as importing or downloading the photos. Your Digital  
SuperPro 640 camera comes with IXLA software to help you import photos to  
your computer. See the software documentation for more information about  
importing.  
The Digital SuperPro 640 camera comes with one connection point on its right  
hand side – it’s both a serial and USB connection point.  
You can connect the Digital SuperPro 640 camera to your computer using  
either the serial or the USB connection, both adapters are on the other side of  
the cable.

To connect the camera to the PC

Plug one end of the cable into the camera; it’s  
the end with only one adapter.

On the other end of the cable, choose either  
the serial connection adapter or the USB adapter and plug it into your  
computer; the adapter with 9 holes is the serial connection, the other  
adapter is the USB adapter; see photos below.

Turn on the camera.  
You are now ready to import photos from your camera to your computer. Refer  
to the section on importing photos in the software documentation.  
Important USB Information  
To use the USB cable you must have:  
A USB port on your PC. For more information, check with your PC  
supplier.  
USB support in your operating system. Window 98 includes USB  
support, and Windows NT up to version 4 does not support USB.  
A USB driver installed for your camera. The USB driver is  
automatically installed when you install the software supplied with your  
Digital SuperPro 640 camera.

Tips for camera maintenance and safety  
To avoid damaging your Digital SuperPro 640, do not expose it to  
extremes of heat or cold. Avoid leaving it in the sun for prolonged  
periods.  
Never wrap up the Digital SuperPro 640 while it is turned on.  
To avoid the risk of electric shock, never expose the Digital SuperPro  
640 to rain or moisture.  
Remove the batteries from your camera if you will not be using it for a  
long period of time.  
To avoid the risk of electric shock, never disassemble the Digital  
SuperPro 640. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel.  
Cleaning the Digital SuperPro 640  
Clean the outside of the Digital SuperPro 640 by wiping it with a clean, dry  
cloth.  
Cleaning the lens and LCD

Blow gently on the lens or LCD to remove any surface dust and dirt.  
Breathe lightly on the surface to moisten it.  
Use a soft, lint-free cloth to wipe it gently dry.  
Never use cleaning solutions on the lens unless they are specifically  
designed for camera lenses.

Monitor adjustment  
To make sure that your photos look their best you may need to adjust your  
monitor to 16-bit color or higher.  
To adjust the monitor

Click the Windows Start button.  
Click Settings and then Control Panel from the pop-up menus.  
Double-click the Display icon.  
Click the Settings tab.  
The Color Palette group should be showing High Color (16-bit) or True  
Color (24 bit). If it is lower than this setting (e.g. 256 color), then choose  
High Color or True Color from the list box.

Click OK.  
You may need to restart your computer after making this change.  
Printing  
There are a number of ways to improve the quality of your prints.  
Check your printer software settings. Make sure that your printer is set  
to print at high resolution.  
Make sure that you are printing on good quality paper. Check with  
your printer vendor for advice about the best paper for your printer.  
Make sure that your ink cartridges are fresh.  
The ideal printing size for photos taken with the Digital SuperPro 640  
is 6 x 4 inches (w x h). Enlarging photos for printing may result in a  
loss of quality. For best results, always print photos at the  
recommended size.

Troubleshooting  
If you have a problem operating your camera, read this section first. If you still  
cannot find the solution, contact our support desk at [email protected].  
The camera has no power.  
Possible Cause

Warranty Time Period  
IXLA warrants the Digital SuperPro 640 to be free from malfunctions and  
defects in both materials and workmanship for 90 days from the date of  
purchase.  
Warranty Repair Coverage  
This warranty will be honored within the geographical location that the product  
was purchased.  
If the equipment does not function properly during the warranty period due to  
defects in either materials or workmanship, IXLA will, at its option, either repair  
or replace the equipment without charge, subject to the conditions and  
limitations stated herein. Such repair service will include all labor, as well as  
any necessary adjustments and/or replacement parts.  
If replacement parts are used in making repairs, these parts may be  
remanufactured or may contain remanufactured materials. If it is necessary to  
replace the entire system, it may be replaced with a remanufactured system.  
IXLA will also provide telephone assistance during the warranty period.  
Limitations  
Warranty service will not be provided without dated proof of purchase. Please  
return the registration card within 30 days of purchase.  
This warranty becomes null and void if you fail to pack your Digital SuperPro  
640 camera in a manner consistent with the original product packaging and  
damage occurs during product shipment.

This warranty does not cover: circumstances beyond IXLA’s control; service or  
parts to correct problems resulting form the use of attachments; accessories or  
alterations not marketed by IXLA; service required as the result of unauthorized  
modifications or service; misuse; abuse; failure to follow IXLA’s operating,  
maintenance or repackaging instructions; or failure to use items supplied by  
IXLA (such as adaptors and cables).  
IXLA makes no other warranties, express, implied, or of merchantability or  
fitness for a particular purpose for this equipment or software.  
Repair or replacement without charge are IXLA’s only obligation under this  
warranty. IXLA will not be responsible for any special, consequential or  
incidental damages resulting form the purchase, use or improper functioning of  
this equipment regardless of the cause. Such damages for which IXLA will not  
be responsible include, but are not limited to, loss of revenue or profit,  
downtime costs, loss of use of the equipment, cost of any substitute equipment,  
facilities or services, or claims of customers for such damages.

How to obtain service  
When returning a camera for repair, pack the camera in the original packaging  
materials. A problem report should also be enclosed with the equipment. If the  
original packaging has been discarded or is not available, packaging will be at  
the owner’s expense.  
Unless a specific IXLA warranty is communicated to the purchaser in writing by  
IXLA, no other warranty or liability exists beyond the information contained  
above, even through defect, damage or loss may be caused by negligence or  
other act.
